Chartered Accountancy (CA) Final Certification

 

The CA Final certification is the final and most advanced level of the CA course, administered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). Passing this exam is the last step toward becoming a certified Chartered Accountant in India. 

 

Eligibility

 

To register for and appear in the CA Final exams, candidates must meet the following criteria under the latest ICAI scheme: 

 

  • Intermediate course:You must have passed both groups of the CA Intermediate exam, scoring at least 40% in each paper and 50% in aggregate for each group.

 

  • Practical training (Articleship):You must complete a mandatory two-year practical training period, or "articleship," under a practicing Chartered Accountant. The training period was reduced from three years under the new scheme.

 

  • Online learning modules:You must pass the self-paced online learning modules (Sets A, B, C, and D) with a minimum score of 50%.

 

  • AICITSS training:You must complete the Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills (AICITSS). 

 

Exam structure and subjects

 

The CA Final exam is divided into two groups, with a total of six papers. 

 

Group I

  • Paper 1: Financial Reporting:Covers advanced concepts, including Indian Accounting Standards (Ind AS), consolidations, and financial statement analysis.
  • Paper 2: Advanced Financial Management:Includes risk management, portfolio theory, business valuation, and mergers and acquisitions.
  • Paper 3: Advanced Auditing, Assurance, and Professional Ethics:Focuses on topics like digital auditing, ESG assurance, group audits, and the Code of Ethics. 

Group II

  • Paper 4: Direct Tax Laws & International Taxation:Covers advanced provisions of income tax law and international tax regulations.
  • Paper 5: Indirect Tax Laws:Focuses on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the Customs Act.
  • Paper 6: Integrated Business Solutions (Multidisciplinary Case Study with Strategic Management):A case study-based paper that integrates knowledge from various subjects, including corporate and economic laws and strategic cost management. 

 

Registration and exam process

 

  • Registration:Registration for the CA Final course is available year-round through the ICAI's online Self Service Portal (SSP).

 

  • Exam attempts:As of March 2025, ICAI announced that the CA Final exams would be held three times a year.

 

  • Validity:The registration is valid for 10 years, and it can be revalidated afterward if needed. 

 

After clearing the final exam

 

Once you have successfully cleared the CA Final exams and completed all training requirements, you can apply for membership with ICAI to officially become a Chartered Accountant. This qualification opens doors to various high-level career opportunities in India and globally.
