CA Intermediate Certification

Chartered Accountancy (CA) Intermediate

 

TheCA Intermediate Certification is the second level of the CA program in India, overseen by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). The exam is now held three times a year, in January, May, and September. 

 

Eligibility

 

You can register for the CA Intermediate program through one of two pathways: 

 

  • Foundation Route: You must have passed the CA Foundation examination.
  • Direct Entry Route: This is available for candidates with certain educational qualifications.
  • Commerce Graduates/Postgraduates: Need a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.
  • Non-Commerce Graduates/Postgraduates: Need a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.
  • Professional Course Intermediate Level Pass: This includes students who have cleared the Intermediate level of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) or the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI).
  • Provisional registration: Final-year graduation students can register provisionally. 

 

Exam structure

 

The CA Intermediate exam has six papers, divided into two groups of three papers each. Each paper is 100 marks and is a mix of subjective (70%) and objective (30%) questions. 

 

Group I

 

  • Paper 1: Advanced Accounting
  • Paper 2: Corporate and Other Laws
  • Paper 3: Taxation (Income Tax Law and Goods & Services Tax) 

 

Group II

 

  • Paper 4: Cost and Management Accounting
  • Paper 5: Auditing and Ethics
  • Paper 6: Financial Management and Strategic Management 

 

Key dates for January 2026 attempt

 

With exams now held in January, May, and September, here are the dates for the January 2026 session: 

 

  • Registration for Exam Application: November 3–16, 2025.
  • Exams: January 6–17, 2026. 

 

How to register

 

The registration process is completed online through the ICAI's official Self Service Portal (SSP). 

 

Passing criteria

 

To pass a group, a candidate must meet the following criteria: 

  • Minimum marks: Secure at least 40% in each paper.
  • Aggregate marks: Secure a minimum of 50% in the aggregate for all papers in that group. 

 

Note: If a student appears for both groups together, they can be declared as passed if they secure a minimum of 40% in each paper and an aggregate of 50% across all papers of both groups combined.

It is the second stage of the Chartered Accountancy course. The course syllabus are accounting, auditing, taxation, finance, and law.

You have to clear the CA Foundation. Or else, you must be eligible for direct entry after graduation or post-graduation.

To pass this exam, you have to score a minimum of 40% in each paper. Not only this, but also have to score 50% aggregate in each group.

Yes! Auditing and Ethics are the main subjects in Group II.

It is quite difficult. However, it can be cleared with consistent practice, preparation, & good time management.

It is a 3-year practical training course. You have to do this under a practicing Chartered Accountant.

The fee varies depending on your registration. It varies for registering on one group or both groups.
